ABSTRACT
Aim: The training and practices taken by the cleaning staff and the caregivers working at the hospital about prevention of nosocomial infections, approach to medical waste and hand hygiene are important in terms of both patient and staff health. It is aimed to assess the efficiency of previous training information given to the cleaning staff and caregivers working in a university hospital about nosocomial infections and the ways of prevention of these infections and efficiency of the last training given by reorganizing the same topics in this study.
Methods: The number of trainings taken about the same topic by participants of the study was listed and the pre-test, interactive training, and then the final test were applied. Chi-square test, McNemar test, T-test, factorial covariance analysis and Pearson correlation analysis were used in the analysis of the data. p<0.05 was accepted as the limit value for statistical significance.
Results: 63.6% of the employees were caregivers and 36.4% of them were cleaning staff; 57.1% were employed in internal medicine branches, 25.6% in surgical branches and 17.2% in other units such as laundry. The median about receiving education in similar subjects so far in the respondents was 9 (1-17). Knowing the correct application of contact isolation was higher in the caregivers than the cleaners (p=0.01) and in those working in the internal medicine branches than the others (p=0.001). There was no significant relationship between the number of training received by the participants and the number of questions correctly known in the pre-test before the training (p>0.05).
Conclusion: In our study, we found that there was no significant relationship between the number of trainings on prevention of nosocomial infections and the number of questions correctly known in the pre-test suggested us to review the trainings given and also the necessity of observing the employees in units about these subjects.

ÖZ
Amaç: Hastanede çalışan temizlik personeli ve hasta bakıcıların hastane enfeksiyonlarından korunma, tıbbi atık kontrolü ve el hijyeni konularında aldıkları eğitimler ve uygulamaları; hem hasta hem de çalışan sağlığı açısından önemlidir. Bu çalışmada; bir üniversite hastanesinde görev yapmakta olan temizlik personeli, hasta bakıcılara, hastane enfeksiyonları ve bu enfeksiyonlardan korunma yolları konularında verilen önceki eğitim bilgilerinin ve aynı konularda yeniden düzenlenerek verilen sonraki eğitim etkinliğinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Yöntemler: Çalışmaya katılanların aynı konuda önceden aldığı eğitim sayıları listelenip, ön test, interaktif eğitim ve ardından son test uygulanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde ki-kare testi, McNemar testi, bağımlı gruplarda t testi, faktöriyel kovaryans analizi (ANCOVA) ve Pearson korelasyon analizi kullanılmıştır. P<0,05 değeri istatistiksel olarak anlamlı kabul edilmiştir.
Bulgular: Çalışanların %63,6’sı hasta bakıcı, %36,4’ü temizlik personeli idi. %57,1’i dahili branşlarda, %25,6’sı cerrahi branşlarda ve %17,2’si çamaşırhane gibi diğer birimlerde görev yapıyordu. Katılımcılarda şu ana kadar benzer konularda eğitim alma ortancası 9 (1-17) idi. Temas izolasyonu uygulamasını doğru bilme, hasta bakıcılarda temizlik çalışanlarına göre (p=0,01), dahili birimde çalışanlarda diğer bölümlerde çalışanlara göre (p=0,001) yüksekti. Katılımcıların konuyla ilişkili aldıkları eğitimin sayısı ile eğitim öncesinde yapılan ön testte doğru bilinen soru sayısı arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmadı (p>0,05).
Sonuç: Araştırmamızda hastane enfeksiyonlarını önleme konusunda alınan eğitimin sayısı ile ön testte doğru bilinen soru sayısı arasında bir ilişki bulunamamış olması; bizlere yapılan eğitimlerin gözden geçirilmesi, ayrıca çalışanların verilen eğitim konuları konusunda çalıştıkları birimlerde gözlemlenmesi gerekliliğini düşündürmüştür.

ABSTRACT
Aim: Undergraduate dental education has been an important issue on oral surgery and there have been many tools to improve the skills of dental students. The aim of this study was to assess two different teaching methods on oral surgery for undergraduate dental education.
Material and Methods: A total of 84 third-year dental students without any declared previous experience on surgery were divided into two groups. Group 1 was given a lecture and slide presentation regarding the extraction of teeth 17 and 37. Group 2 received a demonstration of tooth extraction performed on the plastic skull model in addition to lecture and slide presentation. Baseline knowledge was measured using a questionnaire that consisted of 14-item check list. Data analysis was carried out using the SPSS (version 15) statistical software package. One-Sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and Kruskal Wallis test were performed for the statistical assessment.
Results: Group 2 presented statistically significant better learning scores. Demonstration was determined to be related with higher scores.
Conclusions: The present study reveals that demonstration is more beneficial in teaching basic surgical skills for tooth extraction. Thus, teaching methods are suggested to be performed with demonstration in the preclinical educational programs.

ÖZ
Amaç: Diş hekimliği eğitiminde oral cerrahinin yeri önemlidir ve diş hekimliği öğrencilerinin becerilerini geliştirmek için pek çok yöntem mevcuttur. Bu çalışmanın amacı diş hekimliği eğitiminde oral cerrahide iki farklı öğretim yönteminin değerlendirilmesidir.
Gereç ve Yöntemler: Daha önce oral cerrahi deneyimi olmayan toplam 84 üçüncü sınıf öğrencisi iki gruba ayrıldı. Grup 1’e 17 ve 37 nolu dişlerin çekimi ile ilgili bir ders ve slayt sunumu yapıldı. Grup 2’ye ders ve slayt sunumuna ek olarak kafatası modeli üzerinde diş çekimi demonstrasyonu yapıldı. Temel bilgi kazanımı 14 maddelik kontrol listesinden oluşan bir anket kullanılarak ölçüldü. Veri analizi SPSS (Sürüm 15) istatistik yazılım paketi kullanılarak gerçekleştirildi. İstatistiksel değerlendirme için Kolmogorov Smirnov tek örnek testi ve Kruskal Wallis testi kullanıldı.
Bulgular: Grup 2’de istatistiksel olarak daha anlamlı öğrenme skorları gözlendi. Demonstrasyonun daha yüksek öğrenme skorları ile ilişkili olduğu belirlendi.
Sonuçlar: Bu çalışma diş çekimi için temel cerrahi becerilerin öğretilmesinde model üzerinde yapılan demonstrasyonun daha yararlı olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Bu nedenle, öğretim yöntemlerinin klinik öncesi eğitim programlarında demonstrasyon ile gerçekleştirilmesi önerilmektedir.
